主讲人:Simeon Smaill 教授主持人:周小奇 教授时间:10月21日 9:00 讲座地址:资环楼435室报告摘要:In this presentation Dr Simeon Smaill will providea brief background to New Zealand forestry science and Scion, then introduceresearch exploring options to sustainably increase the productivity of Pinusradiata, which is the dominant exotic forest species in New Zealand.Following this, he will discuss the results of a recently competed projectexploring the potential to use Pinus radiata to manage water quality,which created some unexpected results with important implications for forestmanagement strategies.报告人简介: Dr. Simeon Smaill isthe Portfolio Leader for Establishing Indigenous Forests at Scion, responsiblefor developing research to support the production,establishment and early management of indigenous tree species. He started hiscareer as a microbiologist focussing on enhancing beneficial plant-soil-microbeinteractions in managed and natural forest ecosystems, but over the last 20years has extended his specialities to include indigenous forest ecology,change, plant production and nutrient modelling in both exotic and indigenousforests. During this time frame he has managed the establishment and deliveryof outputs from three of the largest forest trial series ever established inNew Zealand. He has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications andproduced more than 200 reports for government and commercial clients.Dr. Smaill is amember of the New Zealand Soil Science Society, the New Zealand Farm ForestryAssociation, the New Zealand Institute of Foresters and the Small & MediumEnterprises Committee of the Forest Growers Levy Trust. He has received severalscience and industry awards for the production of research with directapplications to forest management. Since 2018 he has served as an AdjunctProfessor at East China Normal University.
